LFCC pictures, part 2

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

I finally got round to sending the email yesterday - the one I meant to send on Sunday…

Anyway, Matt at C&H said I was good to post these pictures, so here they are. Both of the actual pictures here are thumbnails - clicking on them takes you to a more detailed page for the images.

The Explosm banner, at around 2.30pm…

The real treasure for me, though, was the comic. Now, I think I already mentioned that the C&H guys were doing free doodles for those who wandered up to the booth. They were asking for ideas, and I was very specific - “Two guys, running from a giant owl, with the back guy saying, ‘Run! It’s eating everything I say!’” - being a reference back to Word Owl.

And here is the comic. I haven’t been shopping round anywhere that sells frames, but once I’ve managed to find the right frame, I’m going to frame it and put it on the wall in the study if Liz’ll let me.

Anyway, real life has intruded once again which is why not so much else is happening.

I promised pictures, so here they are.

First up, there were plenty of people dressed up for the show. We saw Cylons, various storm troopers (including some from speeders, the Emperial Guard), two or three Darth Vaders, a couple of Jedi, several miscellaneous Starfleet staff, several Indiana Jones’s, Hellboy, Stargate commandos, the Alien, the Predator… a whole bunch of people.

Most of them were pretty happy to pose, but the best posers (and those that actually stood still long enough to get a really good shot) were these guys as The Joker and his henchmen. (There were a couple of Jokers, but really these guys were the best at it. You can click on the images to see bigger ones)

But the guys dressed up was only part of the fun.

Aside from all the celebrities there giving out autographs (I won’t name drop since I didn’t actually meet many of them), Jason Mewes from Clerks/Dogma et al was there. Liz got his autograph and a photo with him - but I won’t scan those yet. I might do another day though.

What else? Ah yes, the film props. They had the green car from The Fast and The Furious there, but no-one seemed that interested. (I could elaborate on why but I really can’t be bothered, much like what I thought of the film really)

They also had the DeLorean from Back To The Future. We got a few shots from it - unfortunately we couldn’t get a really good one of the time control console because of the camera’s tendency to auto-focus (which I tried to turn off but couldn’t). Here goes though.

Also, they had some props from the Indy films there:

There was also a large Hulk statue, for promoting the film. Notice also that the exhibitor next to the Hulk had a statue of Princess Leia for sale (at least I think it was for sale but I didn’t see a price tag…), pointed at Hulk - it wasn’t part of the same stand but still the things interacted.

In the spirit of saving some of the best till last, we visited the Cyanide and Happiness stand. Matt and Kris were there, and it was a blast - I bought a “Hey! I’m being followed by monkeys!” t-shirt which both Matt and Kris signed for me, and Matt drew up a really good doodle. I forgot to ask him yesterday if i was OK to post it on here, but I’ll do that shortly.

They also had a banner, using their pretty generic group-of-4 logo (also on one of the t-shirts) which they were inviting people to sign. Despite saying that people should “go nuts”, there were surprisingly no rude drawings on there. Both Liz and I signed it though, and I do have a photo of it at around 2:20pm which was about the time we walked by hoping to get a group photo shot for this blog, but they were several people deep the whole time. (Must’ve made the guy trying to sell anime next to them pretty wound up since they were busy most of the day and the anime guy was actively approaching people who spent more than about 5 seconds glancing at his stall. He even tried to rope me in and I ended up telling him I didn’t like that anime just to get him to leave me alone.)

I will ask the C+H guys if they mind me posting the photo, and if not I’ll post that along with the doodle Matt did for me. I’m quite impressed, actually, I spent about 3 minutes thinking up the idea for it and Matt did it excellent justice.
